Voronoi Lamp

This product is an exploration in parametric design using the grasshopper plug-in for the 3D modeling software Rhino. The design was inspired by ocean coral. Ideally, the product would be made from recycled bioplastics using a mold to create the form. This prototype was developed using a resin 3D printing process.

Within Rhino I created a basic shape for the lamp that I found visually interesting. I then created a geometric extrusion using the voronoi command in grasshopper. That extrusion was then assigned to a 3D grid that I created around my basic lamp shape. This resulted in the final “coral” form of the lamp.
